Racing camels bocome No.1 winners in the Arab camel competitions after they try honey from Bulgaria Sheikhs from the Arab countries have found a new application to the Bulgarian honey. Impressed by the high quality of honey produced in our country, the Arabs started to feed their racing camels with honey before the beginning of the races. "Huney produced in Bulgaria gives a real boost to the animals and they grab the first awards in camel races," said the chairman of the local union of beekeepers, Milko Nikolov in Haskovo, southeastern Bulgaria. "Due to the strong interest of the Arab countries the Bulgarian honey is imported mainly to the Arab world," added Nikolov further. The sheikhs are also among the consumers of the Bulgarian honey, as it is known to boost sexual prowess. After the last meeting of the Union of Beekeepers, many buyers and distributors contacted the honey producers from Haskovo and made orders for several tons of honey. " They are ready to pay three levs for a kilo," said Nikolov, (1 euro= 1,95 levs). However, Bulgaria's beekeepers complain there's no laboratory in Bulgaria licensed to test the content of antibiotics in honey. The beekeepers have to send samples to a German laboratory, but the tests cost 1600 levs (about 800 euro.) The cost is too high for small and medium-sized honey producers. To reduce the expenses for the laboratory tests, beekeepers store their production until several tons of honey are collected, only then they send samples to Germany. Sheikhs have explored the Bulgarian food market for the right camel food for quite some time. Before finding out about the effect of the Bulgarian honey, they were buying wheat produced in Dobrudja.
